On May 18, 2022, Thyssenkrupp Elevator Corporation filed a complaint against AOAO Harbor Lights on Maui demanding over $100,000 in damages for a contract claim. The exact nature of the dispute, however, was unknown because the complaint was filed under seal without any prior order of the circuit court that explained the reason for the sealing. Civil Beat Law Center for the Public Interest requested access through the clerk’s office and moved to unseal the complaint on June 15, 2022, when that request was denied. The case was assigned to the Honorable Kelsey Kawano. The complaint was unsealed on June 21 after it was determined to have been sealed in error. No. 2CCV-22-133.
